This month's conversation will be a discussion surrounding the suspension of Bobby Portis Jr due to mixing up Tramadol with Toradol, how this could be prevented in the future, and other prohibited medications that may be at risk of Look ALIKE/Sound ALIKE mistakes.

This session is open to all USSPG members! No or minimal prep is needed to attend this session, just bring your perspective and experience!

2025 Annual Meeting

Join us on Saturday, February 1, 2025 virtually for the USSPG Annual Meeting. Attendees will get the opportunity to learn from experts in sports pharmacy, network with other members and speakers, contribute to USSPG’s mission through working groups, and leave with tools to assist them in their sports pharmacy journey. Collaborative Conversations with Athena Cannon - December Topic: Sports Pharmacy Residency and APPE Showcase

Join the USSPG's Chair, Athena Cannon, as we gather monthly to have collaborative conversation about an interesting topic or question within Sports Pharmacy. Discussions have a goal of fostering idea generation to apply to your sports pharmacy journey, networking with members, and an opportunity to collaborate with others who share the same goals and interests.

This month's conversation will be a panel of a few residencies and advanced pharmacy practice experiences (APPE) with Sports Pharmacy opportunities. The format will allow for an overview of each program and a Q & A led by USSPG student leaders. Open to all USSPG students and members.

Program Descriptions:
Sports Medicine Pharmacy Elective At Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center - Combination of retail and institutional pharmacies. Includes observations in occupational therapy, physical therapy, and orthopedic surgeries of all types. Retail side is prototypical with counseling patients and preparing their pre- and post-surgical medications though we do serve the community as well. On the institutional side, it’s management of all medications used during the surgical procedures and proper inventory management along with answering clinical questions that arise in our formulary.

Baptist Health Pharmacy & Sports Wellness - The program emphasizes interdisciplinary care in sports medicine, combining pharmacological expertise with clinical wellness practices to improve patient outcomes. It includes education on lifestyle modifications, clinical lab evaluation, disease state management, orthobiologics/regenerative medicine, the use of health wearables, assessment of evidence based dietary supplements, reviewing banned substance league policies (NFL and NHL), and effective medication therapy management.

The University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy PGY1 Community-based Residency Program (Campus Health) - We are part of a larger community-based program, but at Campus Health residents learn not only in our two outpatient pharmacies, but also in various clinics, notably Sports Medicine.

No preparation needed.

Join us for the October USSPG educational webinar presented by Ashley Anderson, RPh, Clinical Sports Pharmacist, Co-Chair of the USSPG Education Committee and founder of the International Sports Pharmacy Network! This interactive webinar aims to provide an overview of of various sports pharmacy practice models and to consider opportunities for pharmacists, at all levels of experience, to engage in sports pharmacy through sporting events.

Join us for an interactive webinar aims to educate on anabolic androgenic steroids, dive deeper into their history and reasons why their use is widespread using literature and patient cases. Our speaker, Omar Hajmousa, PharmD, will also highlight the dangers of using them through their health risks and other factors we don't typically consider.
